The rod with springs should be secured in the T-slots with these thin square stamped "nuts". I haven't been able to get them to work, but the standard method (no t-nut) pulls out a cone head screw that pushes out the plastic and it holds up very well. Perforated board isn't as strong as wood but seems to hold up pretty well, how much pressure does it take to press the wood against the fence? (I reply to negative reviews here). A push bar is needed for a table saw, a push block would be more useful for a planer (which I don't have) than a table saw, but I've used mine for small work pieces. In general I am satisfied with the starter kit.
