Review on Yoshihiro Professional Whetstone Sharpener Finishing: Achieve Razor-Sharp Precision by Brian Krump

Revainrating 3 out of 5

(Maybe?) Choose something else for a nice really fine grained stone.

Please read this review fully as I'm adding it to my original review. It ripped the blade out of my classic henkotsu kamisori (traditional Japanese straight razor) and it will definitely take some work to get it back. on my Japanese natural stones (the stone was actually almost perfectly flat) but as soon as I started using it I felt like a razor blade hitting large particles buried in the matrix. A few leading edge passes on each side and I stopped to check the edge under a metallurgical microscope at 200x magnification and the edge looked like a micro saw. Not very good. Since I had already modified it for use in my brick holder I cut off the ends of the non-removable wooden base so I figured a refund would be unlikely.) I threw it straight in the trash as I wasn't a happy camper. There are many very positive reviews of Yoshihiro stones on Revain but I'll probably stick with what I know, Naniwa Chosera or Professional or maybe Shapton. Heck, I haven't had a problem with Norton either, although I'm really only familiar with their oil stones and I only use water stones on my Japanese razors. Stone, I was contacted by Bruce, a pro at Yoshihiro. He was concerned that I had had a bad experience and wanted to make it a positive one. All I can say is that these guys really care about their product and of course their customer service. We agreed that it was possible that I had received a stone that did not meet specifications and that this was indeed very, very rare. I may have had a bad high but I'll probably be reaching out to these guys for future purchases because they clearly care. I'm sure if I hadn't actually thrown the stone away they would have happily replaced it or got my money back. How about five stars for customer service?
