Yes this prevents the cable from binding but on top of that it moves the cable to the right side of the piston when the gate closes. My little round plastic thing didn't stay in place, I wrapped some electrical tape around the cable, to secure it. All in all a good unit, but we'll see how well it performs on a contractor's truck.
