I've only ridden them a few times but the rails feel solid and hold up well. They are smooth enough to slide well over metal. I used a clean cap and a well polished flat bar. They come with screws. If you decide to pre-drill the hole, use a depth gauge. I drilled a hair too deep and when I tightened the screw it pushed the grip tape out a little. I don't know the right distance to keep them from doing that. It seems like you don't want to place them too close or you risk blowing off the edge of the board. They look amazing and lift the board off the slide or pool deck so your cool graphics and/or decals stay cool longer. .
