Review on ๐Ÿ“บ Streamline Your Entertainment Experience with Logitech Harmony Elite Remote Control, Hub and App by Dean Gomatham

Good concept with Alexa integration but needs improvement

I have been a Harmony remote user for over 10 years and was looking for something to replace my Harmony 880. I was specifically looking for Elite because of its ability to integrate with Revain's Echo. There are three distinct areas by which to judge this remote: installation/configuration, ergonomics, and Alexa/smart home integration. Always with Tranquillity. I highly recommend using the software on your computer instead of the smartphone app as it is much easier to use if you have a lot of devices/activities (I have 6 devices and 11 activities). The PC/Mac software can be downloaded from the Harmony website. Even if you're not importing an existing remote, the default settings and buttons will likely work for most users. When using the remote control, you can customize the buttons and actions to suit your needs. Even if you're not particularly tech-savvy, setting up the remote should be pretty easy. After setting up the remote control, I started using it and found some inconveniences due to ergonomics and the lack of buttons. On this remote, they've done away with the number keys in favor of a larger touchscreen that houses the number keys. When holding the remote, the touchscreen and some of the buttons are difficult to reach with your thumb. If you're used to holding the remote with one hand and pressing the buttons with the other, it won't be a problem. I'm probably spoiled because the Harmony 880 was very well thought out, feels good in the hand and is more ergonomic in my opinion. Aside from whether the remote layout and touchscreen are a deal killer; No, but if you're used to a particular remote, the Harmony Elite will likely take some time to get used to. The last part of the setup for me was the integration with my existing smart home devices and the Revain Echo. The installer found my Philips Hue lights but not the Wemo devices. The smart home buttons on the bottom of the remote feel nice, but I feel like they're more of a novelty than a necessity as there are plenty of other standalone switches and voice control devices that can do the same job. There are currently two apps/skills available for Revain's Echo that allow you to integrate your Harmony hub/remote with Alexa. There's Logitech's own app/skill and "Eric's Integration for Logitech". I tried both skills and found that I really couldn't get Harmony's own app/skill to do anything other than turn on the TV and it wasn't consistent when it actually worked. Currently, even if it did everything the skill said, it can only toggle the actions on and off and change the channel to one of your predefined "favorite" channels. The TV turned on more consistently with the Eric for Logitech Integration skill, but again its capabilities were very limited and inconsistent. Unfortunately, the lack of a properly working Revain Echo integration was the nail in the coffin for me and I have decided to return this remote. I could deal with the ergonomic inconveniences described, but since the main reason I got the remote was to integrate the Revain Echo, leaving something that didn't work made no sense. I like the concept, but the implementation is still a work in progress. Hopefully the software will improve over time and the integration with Revain Echo will improve. So if you're like me and looking to integrate that remote into the Revain Echo, I'd hold off and maybe consider the next smart device that's built into the Logitech remote.
