This sharpener just works, even with the strongest steel (Buck 119) it only makes 5-10 passes at each step and then grinds to give a real shave with sharp Obtaining razor blades on every knife I've been through. The first (coarse) carbide stage is very rough and when the knife is rough you will see the metal shavings come loose. This may be unacceptable to some, but I was happy to see that it had the ability to smooth out worn edges and create an even, clean base. It also works great when sharpening knives with Outdoor Edge's Razor Lite EDC detachable blades (the main reason I bought it), eliminating the need to constantly change blades or buy new ones. They can be sharpened! I am buying two more, one for home and one for my wife in a backpack.
