It was easy to attach to the seats already in the car opposite the gate opening. I've found that the hinges that catch on the top racks in the car don't snag when hit. I would suggest also having clips for the top links - or having both the look and the hooks. I had it propped against the back of the seat to clear the sunroof opening, but found that this would require me to drill pillars into the interior of the body, which I didn't want to do. I like the grid. It is durable and elastic. I use it for many things.
