3rd order quality is much worse than 1st and 2nd order

I really liked this yarn at first. 85% cotton 15% polyester. I worked my way through 2 cones of fabric - made an amazing baby blanket in crochet baskets. However, the 3rd order was of lower quality. Split like crazy, lots of knots. But people are commenting on products made with it so I will be ordering again just hoping the quality improves.
