Review on Netis Long-Range USB Adapter with πŸ“Ά 5dBi Antennas, 300Mbps High Gain - WF-2116 by James Parker

Great speed at a great price in harsh environments

I have a mini desktop that I built to put next to the TV in the living room downstairs. My wireless router, which is dual-band and 802.11n capable, is upstairs, and I'm consistently seeing peak speeds of 58 Mbps for internet connections, either through a wired NIC or through a wireless NIC that's next to the router. I was using a different wireless network. Dual-band N USB adapter for mini desktop computers in the living room, but with a maximum download speed of 22 Mbit/s. I thought it had to do with the fact that I live in a newer townhouse with vertical and horizontal steel bars interfering with the signal. But I was fed up with the slow speeds and decided to try this Netis USB adapter and WOW! On the 5 GHz band, I'm getting about 98% of the maximum throughput (about 57 Mbps) and twice as much as before. I originally bought it because the reviews were good. My computer is a Windows 7 x64 machine running an old AMD dual core processor with 4GB of RAM and a small SSD. Nothing else is needed for streaming and playing DVDs or casual web surfing. By the way, I'm not a fan of this product. I bought it thinking I could improve my WiFi speed a bit, but I was more than pleasantly surprised. I'm not sure what the long range throughput will be, but the short range through walls is excellent. Just keep in mind that you need a dual-band router to really help.
