Personal hotspot issues and broken parts

I really wanted to like this product but unfortunately I have to give it 2 stars. The design looked sleek and minimal, which is exactly what I wanted with my already minimal 2019 Macbook Pro. I was so upset when the first Hyperdrive I bought had a defective HDMI port. I used it 3 times to stream a movie in a project and after that it stopped working. I also received a new HDMI cable. I read that they suggest using a cable less than 2m, but that didn't happen until I found out why it stopped working. Next and worst is HYPERDRIVE blocking my Personal Hotspot signal from my iPhone Pro. 11. I live in the woods and up until earlier this year only had an iPhone 7 and was able to connect to a hotspot faster than the wifi I had at home. This was my main method of connecting to the internet - had no problems. I've even used it here and there around town and it's been fine - PS I have Verizon so my connections are really good wherever I am, unless it's really off the beaten track. Even when I'm in a mountain home, I have decent wifi. When I recently returned home after purchasing an iPhone 11 Pro, I was unable to connect to my Personal Hotspot. I thought it was an iOS13 issue and did everything he recommended - resetting network settings, turning computer and phone back on and off, among other troubleshooting steps, and nothing helped. I finally disabled my HYPERDRIVE and the hotspot worked INSTANTLY! I'm so frustrated because I use HYPERDRIVE to hook up a fan to cool my computer and connect to a monitor here and there, but this model isn't the one for when you're traveling or in an area without great wifi looking to use it of a hotspot. Fi . Unfortunately I will have to send it back. Also, the weight of the cables can cause the hyperdrive to sag due to a few millimeters of gap between the table and the hyperdrive. This worried me about the longevity of the product, but I haven't used it long enough to know if it was actually affected.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
