deco tacks are well done. I think they are covered with some kind of transparent varnish. They're not shiny, just covered, I suppose, so they wear better that way. The posts are really strong and don't bend when you hit them with a hammer and I pushed really hard. They didn't bow. Well worth the money, great plastic case with strong locks to keep them from falling out of the case and they even give you a tape measure. One side is inches and the other is spaced for even button placement. Very happy with them. I would suggest getting a device with a plastic grip that will hold four buttons at once to ensure even spacing between them. They are difficult to keep in a straight line. Nothing to do with nails, just my lack of skill.
