Strong as nails: electric drill parts and accessories

can handle any job. These bits have various advantages and disadvantages over standard marine drill bits. The three cutting blades are an advantage. They allow you to drill studs into the wall very quickly. The tool is fully hardened so it can gnaw through nails like they were never there. Unlike a ship's drill, the blades can be sharpened. I use a small diamond wheel on my Dremel tool to touch up the edge about every 6 months. Nothing is bulkier than an 18 inch single bolt marine drill. Ship drills have a lot of steel, making them expensive. I can't afford to have multiple drill bits of different lengths for each size. This is a Lenox drill of about 6 inches. long, but you can use an extension shaft to get enough length. The only downside I've found with this bit compared to the ship's drill is its inability to evacuate chips from a deep hole. Once I've drilled 4 inches, the shavings stay in the hole and start jamming behind the drill bit. If I'm not careful, the chisel could get stuck in the hole.

Pros
  • Fast, clean cut - 3 cutting edges improve chip evacuation for fast, clean holes
Cons
  • Legacy model
