Maybe you're stuck with one of these from a previous owner? Replace filter with paper

My 1997 K3500 Centurion had 'Cold Air' flounce as shown in this ad, installed by the previous owner. It's not the worst design, but it looked like hell to install. Materials are top notch except for the fact that the drain was more than enough for an old big block. When I painstakingly removed the filter housing (four screws), I found that the fake K&N flounce was very dirty and slightly warped from the heat. forced out of the engine bay and back into an elongated shape. I tow full-time and my home base is in a dusty environment where "power filters" are dangerous to engine health and not worth any of the purported (read: fake) performance gains. . Now there is no factory filter for this air intake, but I did some Walmart measurements in the filter passage. Fram Extra Guard CA11048 fits snugly onto the rim of the filter and squeezes into the cold air chamber. Boom.

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • Safety
