We use this for a 10 gallon glass hermit crab tank - the tank has a mesh top and we usually keep some cork tiles covered, maybe 2/3 of the screen to keep the heat in. Need a 16w model because we keep our house at 68 degrees during the day and 64 degrees at night. This heating pad keeps the air temperature in the aquarium at 72 degrees and the sand at 80-85. The readings are good, allowing us to keep an eye on the temperature, and the controller seems to work well when switching the pad on and off. The temperature sensor is about 1 inch long - judging by the picture it will be much larger. It sticks well to the aquarium wall. The crabs seem very happy. Place the tile further across the tank (still leave at least 1-2 inches of air gap) to retain heat if the room heat drops at night.
