Review on 🚲 M-Wave Plastic Bicycle Bottle Cage Black: The Perfect Universal Fit Solution by Mike Lunde

OK with attitude Good for water bottle cage

I ordered this with high hopes for a quick release feature but was soon disappointed. The jaws don't open wide enough to climb over the bars (I have stock 25.4mm bars) unless you unscrew the quick release almost completely. Then you have to screw the mechanism in, but the tab is quite small and it's difficult to push firmly with just your fingertips before closing/locking the tab. As a result, the handle wasn't tight enough to hold a full water bottle without rotating the entire cage down, which was very annoying. I removed it as it was more trouble than it was worth. I wanted to sell it on Ebay and then I brainstormed. I had soft foam double-sided tape at my desk, so I cut a strip of it and wrapped it around the steering wheel where I was going to attach the clamp. I then used an adjustable crescent wrench to clamp the quick release shackle so I could really tighten it. THEN, once the tab was closed and locked, everything held in place and I was able to ride without the bottle slipping. This of course goes against the quick release aspect, but that's fine as I like having a water bottle right at my fingertips and the cage holds a 27oz Klean Kanteen. the bottle fits snugly without bouncing or slipping. If I had to do it again I'd probably order an Avenir clip bottle cage instead, but after my setup it worked fine. Due to the problems described, not suitable as a real quick-release device, but once set up suitable as a semi-permanent assembly cage. 3 stars, middle of the street.
