We just installed wood grain porcelain tile in our master bathroom. My husband got too much water in the grout when he was cleaning the tiles and the grout turned white. It just made me sick and scared we'd have to saw the mortar out and try again. I started researching and came across this brand of stain/sealant. I was too nervous to buy it online so I went to a big store and bought their brand. What a mess! Not only was the color wrong, it was a nightmare to apply and clean. I spend all day with it, but it still doesn't look good. A few days later I realized I couldn't live with this so I went to Revain and bought this one and prayed the color search matched the actual one. Product. It did! And compared to that, it was a dream. Many people recommend cheap children's watercolor brushes. I tried and gave up because my hair was tangled and messy. I finally used one of my good art brushes. It was the right width and strong enough (but not too hard) and worked great. Not too much cleaning. But here's the BIG secret. We came across him by accident and he changed everything. Apply the stain and wait a bit for it to dry. Then scrape the edges of the tiles with a cheap plastic picnic knife. It should have a flat top edge. I'm uploading pictures of it so you can see what I mean. If necessary, use a damp - almost dry - paper towel to soften the stain before running the knife over the edges. You'll get a sharp, clean edge with virtually no trouble. And even better, if after a few days you realize you've missed some places, it still works. Soften the stain around the edge with a slightly damp paper towel, and then clean the edge with a plastic knife. Try not to scratch the stain with the knife, but if you do, it's no problem. Simply repaint that area and clean again. Tip: When you're done, find the places you missed by working in the opposite direction from where you went the first time. It is important to change the angle. And don't worry about this step. It is not difficult and does not take much time. If you used a plastic knife to clean up the edges, don't worry because it's a quick job. One of the photos I'm attaching shows work in progress. And the last. If you do this for several days, the spout can dry out and become clogged. Use a safety pin (straighten it first) to remove it. Remove the cap and run water through it by inserting the pin into the hole and pulling it out on both sides. that works great. I remind you: I have porcelain stoneware. I can't comment on how this method works with other materials.
