The device works as advertised. This is especially useful for people who only have a USB-C port on their new laptop but want to connect legacy USB devices. The beauty is that if your computer supports USB-C charging, you can run a USB-C power cable over the hub to charge and power your laptop and connect peripherals. This can be especially helpful for owners of 12-inch Macbooks that only have a USB-C port. In my tests with a portable SSD drive, there didn't appear to be any performance degradation on either the USB-C data port or the two ports. USB 3.0 ports on the box Please note that it supports the slower "Gen 1" USB standard, which means it splits 5 gigabits per second between its ports. the maximum power that can flow through the device. Bigger laptops require more power than smaller ones, so it would be nice to know if this can deliver the full 87W that a 15-inch Macbook Pro needs. This can cause performance or battery drain issues on large laptops under load.
