Horrible Smell - Reptiles and Amphibians

I received this heating pad and when I took it out of the plastic bag I was overwhelmed by the strong chemical smell emanating from the pad. I am very sensitive to chemicals and the smell was too strong. I have no idea why it was so strong, but it definitely wasn't a healthy chemical smell and I didn't want to wait a few days to see if it went away. Also, the smell was so strong that my gecko would probably die if I used it.
