Review on SunFounder Ultimate R3 Sensor Kit V2 by Ivan Gee

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not what I meant (UPDATED)

My bad first. Somewhat satisfied with another vendor's Grove starter kit, but frustrated by the inflated cost of the sensors associated with Grove, I thought I'd found a good deal here. As it turns out, I discovered another proprietary connector - the only thing I don't like about the Grove board - but worse! on the sensor itself - the supplied cables end in the usual connectors on the breadboard! So you don't have to worry about those proprietary connectors preventing you from screwing up connections - it remains just as likely. In fact, there's no substitute for the usual, old, needy ports. TinkerKit almost had something, but ultimately it seems that introducing a proprietary connector tends to put off DIYers once they get past the beginner level. As with cycling, training wheels just get in the way at some point. UPDATE: I've added a third star because I've enjoyed working with Sunfounder in the past and am quite happy with the sensor suite. in this set, as well as the price at which they are sold. My complaint relates to the unnecessary proprietary connector coupled with its poor implementation. A better implementation would be to offer a development board with the same connector and cable with the same connector on BOTH sides - in this case customers would at least trade vendor lock-in for the convenience of a reliable connection.
