I had locking tabs on my jeep and lost the key. I use them to take off the ledges. They're great for removing protrusions when the bad part is trying to pry the logo out of the tool when you're done.
I lost the wheel lock key on my Jeep TJ. I didn't ride every day, I didn't take the wheels off for a few years. The rim lock remover worked great. I removed all four wheel locks in about half an hour. The tool works by screwing the nut back on until the nut is completely loose. The threads of the wheel bolts are not damaged. It will probably work with damaged nuts too.
My Durango key was lost. The 1 inch wheel lock tool will not engage the lock nut. I tried using a pneumatic hammer and hammering the tool on the locking bar - it didn't grab. As a result I used a 22mm impact head. Notched and immediately unscrewed. Using a long 1/4 inch extension, remove the lock from the socket and tap it out with a hammer. If the size was a little larger, I think it would work well.
The steel in these reverse-threaded bushings was too soft to successfully cut into the nut. I tried to get it to work by twisting the nut so the socket was snug and snug. Each time, the bushing's threads broke off and didn't hold tight enough to unscrew the locking tab. I ended up cutting off the locknut and lug with a cutter to remove the wheel. I think such a tool could work if the steel in it was harder.
I received this extraction tool and first impressions are that it is well made and the plastic case comes in handy for organized storage. But when I tried the bolt extractor, my big disappointment was that they weren't exactly the right size. Size 3/4 is too small for size 3/4 and size 11/16 is too big. So you have a kit that needs to be scaled up, but isn't made to industry standard sizes. I ended up buying a reputable branded puller that was a size 11/16 and it works great and is the rightโฆ
I had to remove 24 locking nuts from an old truck getting it back on the road. It took a while but I unscrewed all 24 single head nuts. Thereafter, the nest showed no obvious wear. To remove the nuts, I placed the bushing on the extension, using a brass hammer with moderate blows, drove the bushing onto the lug nut, removed the extension, and then with a half hitch removed the nut. The tricky part was removing the bushing from the nut. Hold the jam nut and reverse the punch in the oppositeโฆ
I bought this set to help loosen a stripped nut. Buying a set was cheaper than buying a single beat, so it seemed like a no-brainer. It was pretty easy to use with my impact wrench. Simply select the appropriate socket, slide onto the impact wrench, slide onto the stripped nut and move in the opposite direction. The bit actually threads onto a stripped nut/bolt and when it snaps the bit and nut/bolt combo snaps on quite hard and in my case the lug nut came loose immediately! After that I putโฆ
