Best Household Knife Sharpener Available

I heard about this many years ago on a cooking podcast that reviews and rates appliances. It's more than a gadget. This is a very effective kitchen knife sharpener that is easy to use even if you are not a professional. You simply guide the knife blade through the device as indicated. The knife becomes incredibly sharp. I bought one a few years ago but I thought it wasn't working properly anymore. This is very similar to outstanding results.

Misleading and disappointing

What I thought was a good knife sharpener with metal construction and light weight turned out to be basically a standard plastic version with thin metal plates glued on the outside. Even what appear to be screws holding the metal side panel are fake, they are circular cutouts in the metal plate with black plastic underneath, shaped to look like screw heads. I would definitely return this if it was over $4 compared to the standard plastic model.

This really works. Be careful as this will definitely remove the metal. I have a $250 Shun Sotuku and was a bit apprehensive about using it. Even though I found out that Shun's lifetime enchantment takes weeks and I have to pay both ways, I decided to give it a try. My God. super sharp. I even sharpened a butter knife as shown in a YouTube review I was watching and hell, after about 40 passes the butter knife was able to shave the hair off my arms. Love it.

  • Useful not only for its intended purpose

Quickly. Not the best for all applications but good value

Not really a talking point. But it gets the job done, but I wouldn't put it on a really good knife. This applies to pocket knives, work knives and steak knives. Because he just bites off the whole rim and makes a new one. If it's a cheap knife? Great, who cares? You can't beat the quick sharpening that even a kid can do (I don't recommend kids doing this as you could actually cut yourself if you're not an adult using this, but they could). But for a good kitchen knife I could go with anything -

Exceeded my expectations.

It's not expensive so I just expected 'ok'. I'll be honest - I thought I would ruin it by prepping every knife I have for the better quality sharpener I've researched. My knives are not "chef knives" - I have a Samsclub Members Mark Set, some Dansk, Horschner and some unnamed Specials. I take full blame for years of lack of maintenance and for deadening them all by slicing them on plates rather than a wooden cutting board. Simply apply light, even pressure, straighten, move slowly, and repeat…

Malfunction. Poor quality control

If this was my first experience with an AccuSharp sharpener it would be one star. It's useless. I've had the cheaper version of this sharpener for years. Practical sharpener for everyday use. It's time to replace it, so I decided to try the updated version. He arrived today. As soon as I started taking it out of the box, I saw that the smooth metal plate on the back of the sharpener was separating from the sharpener. The defect is so obvious that it should not have gone through a…

Working on Swords in the Kitchen and Dining Room

Quite a few replica swords and cane swords are advertised as sharp, but when you get your hands on them you find them to be as sharp as a butter knife. But try to pierce a kitchen knife sharpener with a sword. Nothing will work. It is almost impossible to sharpen a sword on an average grinder - it is very easy to spoil the tempering of the blade. You can use a thin flat file and stone to sharpen your sword, but you'll need patience, a good eye, and a feel for the blade. With the AccuSharp…

Great for most knives, bad for most swords

I use this to sharpen 5 of my kitchen knives and 3 of my historical swords. For knives, they work great; although it took me longer to sharpen them than I expected (bluntness 1mm). Of course it won't be as fast as advertised in 10 seconds, but I didn't expect it to last longer than 5 minutes. Since most knives have a sharp angle between 15 and 22.5 degrees, the good thing about this sharpener is that its angle is likely to be between 19 and 21 degrees. This can create a new blade shape for your
