The hinge is a little tight, but not so bad that it won't loosen up after a few uses and stays tight enough not to keep opening. There is a small plastic loop for the lanyard so you don't lose it. I have been using Triplets for many years. This one is very crisp from edge to edge. Really clear. It comes with a REAL leather case, looks the same, smells the same doesn't it! For those of you who don't know, the triplet and more elements in the optics make it clear without side-to-side eye strain. Great edge to edge optics and great savings (made in China) compared to the latest Bausch and Lomb manual 10x lens which I replaced with this one.
