Change the brew day.

I will never go back to a regular hydrometer. I got frustrated trying to read small numbers while the bubbles stuck and flooded the view. I had to take large samples, the hydrometer reached the bottom because I didn't get enough samples, extra parts to disinfect, etc. Not the funnest part of my brewing day. Now I just disinfect the small test lamp that came with it, put a few drops on the glass and I can see my SG as bright as day. Now I'm really looking forward to this part of my bridal dayโ€ฆ

Should have bought a year ago.

I've been drinking without one of them for 5 years. I finally decided to spend the money and buy one (even though they're pretty cheap) and I can't believe what I've lost. It used to be a hassle to monitor the movement of the mash and the brewing process because I always had to pick up the jug and chill the sample. This measurement takes a few seconds, just fantastic. The initial calibration wasn't entirely correct, but I just followed the instructions and after 1 minute everything was fineโ€ฆ

Works well! in refractometers

Have been using it for a few weeks with no problems Actually a joy to just squirt boiling wort on it and know where my beer is compared to forcing the sample to cool or Seek temporary compensation. Can also be used to check gravity and alcohol calculations with a hygrometer if you forgot to take OG or FG. Several websites and beer software packages do the calculations. Have wanted one of these for years but never got enough to spend a few hundred bucks - great to get one for under $50 thatโ€ฆ

As good as its user!

This is a tool that requires some know-how - don't be fooled by the appearance of a simple OG/FG measurement. Refractometers are usually designed for wine. The refractive index is slightly different so you'll need to apply a wort correction factor if you want to use it for beer, it's usually close to 1.04, but do your homework on that. Next, do not trust reading FG! Fermented beer requires additional calculations, note the initial and final Brix and then use the free online calculator toโ€ฆ

This instrument is accurate

I have been making wine for about 6 months and in that time I have broken two glass hydrometers. Both times it was my fault, but they're so brittle, and besides, they've always been hard for me to read, and they take so much of my precious wine to read. After reading a number of reviews about this refractometer I ordered it. The instructions said to check the accuracy with distilled water so I put a few drops on the viewing area, waited 30 seconds and the readings were almost perfect. It onlyโ€ฆ

Don't believe some reports about calibration being disabled

Calibration technically disabled for specific gravity? Yes, but that's on purpose. Refractometers are designed to work with clear liquids, so they must be calibrated to work with beer wort. To learn more please calibrate your google refractometer, in particular you can read the comments on the BeerSmith software and their forums. I use BeerSmith for brewing and it has a special tool just to calibrate the refractometer to convert Brix to specific gravity. After performing the calibration, it was
