AMD is back in the game! Finally an update from my FX8350. I have an I7 7700k as a secondary computer and the 5 1600 is on par in many ways and saves a decent amount of money over the blue team; It's also more energy efficient with a TDP of 65W! I use this chip most of the time for gaming, but I'm even more confident in its performance for graphic design, photo editing, video coding, etc. The only downsides of my chip are: slightly unstable overclocking above 3.9GHz. I manually set it to 3.8GHz

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • Bad impression

Sturdy hardware. A word of advice: I've seen many people say that the standard fan is difficult to install. Until you realize the backplate has fallen off, which is why you've been berating yourself for the last thirty minutes, questioning your own sanity, abilities and reason for being, try your best not to smash this thing a thousand times over. Little things in front of your girlfriend because she saw the receipt and would certainly not approve of destroying an item with that price on the…

Best Budget CPU for Streamers

With my very first desktop computer, I knew I wanted to play games and have two screens, so that meant a CPU with more cores and high speed per core. While these aren't the insane single-core speeds that Intel has, they work great. If you enjoy streaming or recording gameplay, you can play games without sacrificing performance thanks to the large number of streams and their fast processing. In the whole time I've had this processor (4 months) it has never gone above 35% during gaming, video…

All-round processor

is good at everything except its multithreading. which turns out to be great, especially for this price. If you have a GTX 1070 or Vega 56 graphics card, this processor even offers comparable performance to the best gaming processor, since there are very few games currently that maximize all possibilities. The r5 1600 threading technology will eventually catch up and use more threads in more games so this processor will only get better over time. 2 looks very promising) I managed to overclock…

The Best All-In-One CPU For You $$$

I've been looking for this CPU for weeks and finally pulled the trigger last month. Got this on an Asrock AB350m Pro4 board with 2x4GB HyperX Fury ddr4-2400. Running Wraith cooler with thermal paste pre-applied and everything is fast and cool. Had the first try posted and was able to run several memtest iterations. Before I put everything in my case, I checked the temperature right after the test (44c on the CPU). The mainboard was about 8 degrees colder. I have a microATX case with 5 case fans

Pros
  • Nice Packaging

What's not to like?

I really like this processor. I needed to build a "cheap" image manipulation machine. Of course, a thousand dollars isn't exactly cheap, but then I didn't use any "cheap" parts except for the motherboard and processor. In this case, $200 for a processor with the same performance and a decent cooler is a plus. I removed the TIM and used the ARCTIC MX4 as intended. Isopropyl alcohol (91%) and some cotton swabs did a great job removing my TIM and applying mine. I went with the default OC that the…
