I installed PowerStep many years ago and after a couple of years it stopped working in hot weather. I bought this updated controller in August 2019 and it worked fine for few months and then stopped working in hot weather. Since then I have contacted Amp Research many times and have only received automated replies that a ticket is open and someone will get back to me. It's been over 2 years and I still can't get any help on this issue.

After installing the switch I realized that a door switch could be added to hold the rails up when the driver's door is opened. I added grab bars for my 5ft wife to help her get into my 2021 Jeep Rubicon but they get in the way. I think using the SPST spring switch on the driver's door should allow me to "permanently" activate the switch. (The success of this may depend on the "flip” of the switch.)

I love the hand switch on the ride, it comes with switch, wires, connectors and instructions. Pretty expensive for what it is, but it comes with everything you need if you have a newer controller module. As mentioned, this should be included throughout the kit. If it was included in the whole stepper kit, the wiring could be in the amplifier harness that goes into the cabin. Why not flip the switch and charge over $30 for the entire set? I am buying this for a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited that I am sharing with a much smaller person. They need steps to get in and out but I don't. I've found that after removing the steps and closing the doors, the controls return to normal after 30 seconds no matter what position the switch is in. I contacted AMP Research directly and they responded within 24 hours stating that the switch and controller were designed that way. This lockout switch is a very expensive accessory for AMP Research Power Steps. It's basically a standard rocker switch, three pieces of 18 gauge wire, three butt connectors, and a plug that connects that wire to the control box that comes with the Power Steps. I reckon I could find the equivalent for less than $10. The control box is already made and built to use this switch, and given the cost of the Power Step kit (it was $1,500 on my truck) it makes sense to me to include this $10 lockout…
