Amperage Alternator 1990 2000 31100 MT2 005 31100 MT2 015 Review

Purchased to upgrade the 2000 Gold Wing electrical system to modern standards. It's now possible to run electrical attachments and essentials like electrically heated clothing to extend your travel time through the frozen Midwest. The only downside is that the cord that plugs into the electrical system plug was 3-4 inches shorter; relocation of the plug from its original position is required. On the plus side, unlike previously mentioned, this is a true plug and play replacement.

This is definitely less weight than the other generators. I believe the lighter weight of this alternator is the cause of the vibration which I hadn't noticed before. The cable connector on it does not fit the GL1500. I had to make some adjustments to make it fit. The wire going to the battery was a bit tricky to attach to the alternator due to the position of the post to which it had to be attached.

I received the alternator in good condition. But after installation, there were vibrations of up to 2000 rpm from the generator, and after 250 miles of driving, the generator failed. Initially, 13.4 V was registered. After about 238 miles of driving my new AGM battery died and I was stuck on the side of the road 5 hours from home. I bought a new AGM battery to keep going for an hour. Then I had to rent a truck and trailer from UHaul for over $400 to get home. I want a refund for this purchase…

Replaced a Hitachi block with a 1997 Goldwing. It got up a lot easier than the old generator. I estimated it held 13.8v at idle and the original only 12.7v. Only one ride so far but otherwise no vibrations or issues. Build Quality I would give C+ as there was a bit of rust on the body and input shaft in the center of the input shaft. It looked like it had been there for a long time. It was necessary to fit a new crimp connector to the bike *and* a new alternator to connect the remote sensor…
