Fluke/Amprobe should honestly be ashamed.

This gauge comes with sensors that are frankly worse than the ones that come with the multimeter that Harbor Freight is giving away for free. The red probe didn't even go into the outlet. I literally couldn't slide it into the outlet. I've tried the wires on other test tools (notoriously good, including Fluke) and they couldn't even pass a continuity test. Without moving the probe tips, the signal changed, indicating broken connections or wires within wires. When I tried the Harbor Freight…

Big but works well

AM-510 meets my fairly basic needs very well and has a few features that I like. I use it for home electrical work as well as repairing some very basic electronics, appliance and small motor problems and repairs. I also use it to work on cars and boats. I like the auto ranging and the strength of the test leads. Sometimes I forget to toggle the red probe when switching from voltage measurement to battery check at 1.5V or 9V, but I guess I'm still used to my old fancy VOM. (Of course, you could…

Pros
  • Fully featured with non-contact voltage detection, continuity tone and diode test
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Let me start by saying that as a professional electrician you need a multimeter for everyday use and you want maximum reliability, quality and accuracy - why are you looking for this multimeter? I read a few reviews that sorted out this cheap $40 meter and scratched my head a bit. If you want a $250 gauge, buy a Fluke or similar. Don't buy this and then measure it with professional gauges and write scathing reviews as it doesn't stand up to scrutiny and measurement with much more expensive…

Reliable well-made meter with some flaws

I did a lot of research on multimeters before deciding to order this Amprobe multimeter. In terms of price and features from a reputable manufacturer, this is a worthy product. I chose Amprobe over many other Chinese brands mainly because they have a solid reputation for build quality, safety features and reliability (confirmed by rigorous testing by respected assessors). Amprobe is a division of Fluke (probably the industry leader) with a range of affordable products. This Amprobe AM-510 is…
