I started welding school and was told the first thing. Don't buy a range hood on Amazon. It will break and you won't be able to go to the local store and buy a replacement part. so i did it anyway. If you are an amateur welder then this item is a godsend. I think the more experienced folks can take it apart for this and that, but I've gone from a 2x3 inch auto-dimming window to this one - and with the extra displays, the size and the way it works, I've got it I've never had a good helmet before. I took a welding course and had a cheap HF helmet. I did not see anything. Also, an old helmet kinda blinded me with an arc and I also couldn't see the background or what I was welding. I'm taking a welding class. One of the requirements was to bring a "hood" for use during training. There are ten students in the class, each with their own helmet. Some of the helmets are in the $200 price range. Of course they're painted and gloss enamelled, but they do the same thing as the helmet I bought for 25% of their price.
