API Killed My Goldfish

I despise you Mars Fishcare/API and everyone who sells this product. The instructions provided are incorrect, my beloved goldfish who lived with me for 12 years is dying a slow and painful death. I am devastated yes she may be just a goldfish to others but not to me or my family she is a beloved pet who is now dying by my own hands for using your product. I want you to feel the sadness and hopelessness that has come over me. I have been using API products for years and had no reason not to…

API Algaefix and API Marine Algaefix are two different products.

I panicked and bought an API Marine Algaefix when hair algae growing on java moss completely bombed my fresh water tank. The product killed the hair algae with no problem. However, when I tried using Marine's special green water treatment product in another of my tanks, it did absolutely nothing. Went back and did a little research and found that the marine strain had no effect on green algae in a freshwater aquarium. I bought this product, which is not a marine option, and it cleaned up my…

Read this if you want to kill algae and not your fish.

Kills algae. Kills fish if used incorrectly. I have found that it is best to use 1/4 dose and dilute the dose with at least 1 gallon of water before adding to the aquarium. It was successful. I forgot to dilute the same dose of seaweed fix after a water change and all the little fish that came to watch and thought I poured a treat or something good were all spooked (killed). This thing killed them in a few minutes and some in 10 hours. Anything over 1/3 or 1/4 the dose produced poor results…

Kills fish when used as directed

This product is dangerous. Yes it works but the dose they suggest made my fish lethargic and officially killed a tough zebrafish today. That was after 2 partial water changes. My LFS also recommended this. Only after that did I see countless reviews with similar stories. The API is required to warn people about this label and the IMO recommendations for lower dosages. I'm surprised they haven't been sued, but I guess people aren't going to sue over $1 fish. Details: I fought with…

Dying fish for aquarium water treatment

My opinion is if you love your goldfish (2000 gallon pond) DO NOT use this product. I've used it successfully in the past so I bought it again to deal with new blooms. Tuesday a week ago. Three days later the plaque hadn't gone away, so on Friday I used it again as instructed. Then on Saturday, a day after the second treatment, I did not see a single fish (out of 20), looked into all their usual shelters and nothing. Eventually I could see about 5 of them hiding in lily pad roots. I was…

KILLED MY FISH - Aquarium water treatment

I would just like to start off by saying that I am an experienced fish breeder and that the fish farming hobby is by no means new to me. What, as they say; I bought this product to solve an algae problem I was having in one of my aquariums. I've had this particular tank for a year now and all of its inhabitants are original fish that I bought when I set up the tank which has kept everyone happy and healthy and I've literally never had a disease problem. etc. (excluding occasional algal blooms).

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Not everything fits
