Definitely not "practically quiet ".

This was a great quality air pump but I bought this to convert my aquarium's current filter to a foam filter. I figured a sponge filter would be about the same or quieter apart from the bubbles it creates. The pump emits a constant, loud and annoying hum. It might not be that bad, but my tank is in a quiet room about 4 feet from the main area. It's much more noticeable than the old filter. I'm giving 4 stars because I didn't really know what to expect or what I was getting myself into.

Louder than expected.

I'm new to aquariums but I have 2. I bought this one because I said it was "practically quiet" and thought it would be good for my 1.7g . It's actually quite loud or noticeable compared to the other one I have (Boxtech). Boxtech gets closer to the humming sound of a large fridge, while Aqueon hums more and lets in a lot of air, so it's probably suitable for a large tank in a room where the tank has a silencer closet. . I leave it running when I'm not at home, but when I'm at home I unplug it. A

Love these compared to other cheap pumps

In my experience they were a bit quieter than Tetra pumps. I have 10 and 20. Smaller and more vertical support with thick rubber bottom and feet to reduce vibration and noise. The built in check valve is something they could all easily offer (actually should be for the safety of new hobbyists) and they are actually serviceable. It appears to be a popular design from 30 years ago that has resurged in recent years. In 2020, they rarely make it easy to figure out what you're buying. Pumps can get…
