Aqueon 🔍 Filter Cartridge Replacements Review

I researched and bought filters for our 3.5 gallon PetSmart Top Fin. While they don't fit 100% perfectly (I had to fold back the black tabs), they do the job! They were a great price, much cheaper than PetSmart. Will buy them again and use the tab folding method to save $$$. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Fits and looks good but I believe these filters contain 10% or less activated carbon than the ones I have used - same make and model so they are not actually made by Aqueon and are counterfeit or they changed the product significantly . The weight of each filter is several times less than the weight of the old ones. I could see a 10% or even 25% reduction in filter media and hope no one notices, but 90% and up? I am very disappointed with the Aqueon Silent Flow system in general. I bought a 54 gallon Aqueon corner tank and the largest Aqueon rear filtration system that would fit (quietflow LED 50) only to find it was ridiculously small. I changed the cartridges on these filters every few days and my water looked terrible. I switched to a canister filter and my water is crystal clear, requires minimal maintenance and high flow. I keep them now as a backup in case I ever have problems with the canister.

I love my Aqueon filter, it's so easy to set up and use. I don't like filter cartridges. The cartridge that came with the filter was pretty good and I had no problems with it. Nothing compares to the original filter that comes with the Aqueon Minibow. This replacement bag has a completely cheap outer material (bag) that peels off and goes into the water. The fabric of the bag and the activated charcoal in the bag are so thin that the water just flows through without being fully filtered. The filters were not in the regular Aqueon packaging but in a plain brown cardboard box with a photocopy of the Aqueon label. Inside was a photocopy of a sheet with a label. I opened it up in comparison to my other Aqueon aquarium filters that were in use and they looked different too. The top tab of the filter was very rectangular with sharper corners compared to the rectangular Aqueon tab with more rounded corners.
