Overall great value for occasional use

I chose this device because it works with either USB Type 2.0 or USB Type C and after putting this CD/DVD drive in the Been using it for the past few weeks I think it's great value for money and we've found specific questions or concerns that we should report. As an IT professional, I can tell you that the external USB CD/DVD drives that have been produced in recent years have one thing in common. The cheapest devices tend to be compact/small form factor, depending on the laptop model, and the…

Good for the Price Best in Computer Components Category

I researched the best external DVD drives for laptops and this one came #1 for price, ease of use and quality. I don't know anything about this type of product so I bought it trusting the review. It was pretty easy to set up - the instructions are in small print and in many languages. I had to download a free app on my computer to watch the movies I bought it for. I didn't use the disc that came with it. According to the review, it was a bit noisy, but I didn't hear any noise except when…

Beware 16 " MacBook Pro users: Will not work with a USB-C port

I chose 2 stars. The point is that a) the description says it works with a Mac, b) it comes with a USB-C cable, and c) the instructions clearly state that it's not guaranteed to work when used with a USB hub becomes. HOWEVER, the 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro models only have USB-C ports, and a single USB-C port obviously doesn't deliver enough power; When connecting, the hard drive just clicks, but the system is not recognized and does not open. Of course I could connect a USB-AY cable, with each…

This one works compared to other brands

I received this product in the mail today and first let me say this is an amazing item. If you're thinking about getting one of these to install drivers instead of installing an optical drive on your computer, choose this brand and this product because it works as it's supposed to, it reads every CD I've had , and was finally able to install the motherboard drivers, which I didn't download online last week. Before purchasing this item, I used a Valoin external DVD drive because it was $27 and…

It's REALLY fast! in Computers and Accessories

Haven't used it to "write" yet, but it's really fast when it comes to "reading". The device I use the most is copying a physical audiobook onto my iPod for mobile listening - and it's really fast. I bought this unit to replace a broken unit and am very happy with my choice. I have one negative comment (why the rating doesn't get 5 stars) that has to do with the build quality. These devices are portable and lightweight, requiring the user to hold the drawer to close it. I used to do this by…

Some discs work some don't

I bought this drive for my latest Mac Mini. Unfortunately, it reads some discs and not others. I checked the "problem" drives on two other drives and both were able to read them. To be honest the "problem" discs had some minor scratches, but I don't want a drive that can only read "perfect" discs. I had a chat session with an ASUS technical representative but he was unable to resolve the issue. Also, according to the tech agent, there is no firmware update for this device. I have taken steps to
