The clip was broken. overpriced.

The thermostat works great, although Atwood really should have included it if it weren't so cheap. Three stars for the clip, which turned out to be defective for me. The hooks on the ends of the two levers should be facing outwards, but on the clip I received they are facing inwards. This renders the clip useless and cannot be bent without breaking the metal. I had to spend an hour of milling and aluminum brackets to install it. Considering the lack of quality control on the clip and the fact…

Very nice in our 30 year old motorhome.

This product wasn't very easy to install, I had to bend the spring a bit to keep it from popping out of the metal body of the water heater and it took almost 4 hands in a very large space enough for one or two, but in the end i got it and it works great. The water heater used to overheat, now it does just right. I like that it's adjustable, but I didn't have to make any adjustments to the settings that came with it. Remember to use thermal paste between the thermostat and the body of the water…

Works well but can be difficult to install.

. I also saw a man struggling with the device to keep the spring behind the mount. So it was with me. The hole in the bracket doesn't line up exactly with the thermostat, and it's just a matter of luck to keep the spring from slipping through the bracket. I was unlucky and it took several hours to put everything back together where it looked like it could stay together. Despite that, it seems to work well and didn't fall apart after our first ride, but I don't trust it and will test it after…

Pros
  • . Good product for the price.
Cons
  • . Lots of stuff.

Terrible development and quality control

This is a piece of junk. The spring and clip they sent you to install just doesn't work as advertised. I literally spent two hours fiddling with it according to the instructions. I finally realized that it just never works. I ended up just pushing the tabs back out a bit and jamming them. Proud of me! It was definitely against the tank. Turned the heater on and didn't turn it off. I have ordered another one. Same result. In the end, RV Tech took care of it. The first comment was "Yes, they…

Annoying boiling stopped by the pressure valve

Our new Dometic water heater (formerly Atwood but Dometic bought them) often got hot enough to blow the pressure relief valve. Not too much blood; and almost every time we only used it in electric mode. So I reset the headroom (everything was fine) but no luck. I changed the pressure valve. but still it boiled over. So I bought and installed this adjustable thermostat and good luck! I finally found a setting that didn't allow the heater to slam the safety valve - A/B. This variable thermostat…

Installation issues but ended up working fine

I expected it to be a PITA to install and had some issues but ended up installing well and working great. The tabs on the clip that came with the kit were bent the right way, so that's a good thing. But tabs for wires weren't the right size. So I finally cut the spade connectors on the RV wires and installed the correct size connectors to fit this thermostat. I used heat shrink tubing over the joints. I also used a heat dissipation compound (it's a paste) to improve the thermal connection…

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not everything fits

Should be standard equipment!

I recently installed this thermostat on my RV's water heater. Just remove the old one and install this one. As others have said, the supplied spring needs some adjustment. I "stretched" it to get the maximum possible pressure on the water tank. I also had to crimp the smaller outside edge of the spring a bit to keep it from slipping into the clamp hole and causing an uneven fit. I also added a drop of thermal paste between the thermostat and the tank to ensure an accurate temperature reading. I

Great idea, poor execution

Like many others, my goal was to tame boiling water and reduce the power consumption associated with the factory thermostat by 140 degrees. My water heater is a factory Dometic/Atwood (WH-6GEA) installed on my 2021 Coachman Freedom Express 231rbds. As others have said, for a factory-supplied aftermarket kit (Dometic/Atwood), it has the worst mounting system - a cheap metal bracket that works for some approach, and a horribly engineered weak spring that, by design, exercises along with the…
