Not very accurate for analytical instruments

Not as accurate as hydrometer. I'm not sure what to honestly say about this product. I suppose if you're brewing a ton of beer and have the time to do lots and lots of cross-referencing with your hydrometer at various SGs to create a large enough correction chart for it, then this will prove more useful than I've found it to be so is. Because it's not even close to multiple hydrometers set by one SG and then pointing to another. For example, if I set it up to read the first run's SG correctly…

Pros
  • Brix measurements: 0-32% and specific gravity: 1.000-1.120
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Ideal for home brewing

I currently make 1 gallon batches of cider and mead. I bought a refractometer on the recommendation of friends because I ran into a common problem when using an hydrometer. For 1-gallon batches, you must take a large sample of mead to get a reading. Adding a sample to your brew can increase potential contamination, but with a 1-gallon batch, you'll lose a significant amount of your beer if you take multiple samples during fermentation. Enter the refractometer. With a refractometer, you can…

Pros
  • Agriculture Solutions LLC Dual Range Refractometer measures the Brix and Specific Gravity of your must or wine.
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Good device for measuring wort density but note some features

I bought this after seeing one of these at the local Brew Your Own Beer shop where they show you how to brew a 15 gallon batch using their professional equipment. I liked the fact that this device is easy to read and only requires a drop or two of wort to measure as opposed to a hydrometer which requires a few ounces of wort to measure. The hydrometer causes you to lose a few ounces of beer with each reading, which can equate to a small serving. What nobody has told me, and I wish they knew, is
