Dangerous Will Robinson!

Connecting to a computer can kill. It is not protected in any way. For me, the Firewire port on my $1600 Apple iMac caught fire and also damaged other devices connected to it. Smoke went out and 2 very expensive items expired. I wouldn't even advise a geek to install this. What a piece of shit. And now I can't even return it for a replacement or refund. Damn, I have 2 more. They're going in the bin before they damage my other expensive computer.

Pros
  • Finally bought it
Cons
  • Everything is fine

Good hub, terrible packaging

I like Belkin devices, but their packaging is some of the most user-unfriendly in the business. I deduct a star for that. Good: 6 ports at a very good price. Bus or self catering. A high quality 6 pin / 6 pin 5ft cable included. The power cord of the wall wart is nice and long. Cons: The packaging is really difficult to open. bulky wall wart; takes up two positions on many power strips and must fit into the bottom socket of the wall outlet. Ugliness: no compatibility list, but so far so good…

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Flaws

Works like a hub. but

The price for this is outrageous. I needed this to test the back of a digital camera and had to buy this. I will not buy it again because the price is too high.

Loud for FireWire audio interfaces

Device works as advertised but is more suited to hard drives than audio interfaces. The noise never went away, but the noise level probably increased by 300-500%. Hissing can be heard even without playback and at a fairly low volume. It sounds almost the same as playing an audio cassette. Apart from the Presonus Firebox, there were no other devices on the hub. I've tried multiple ports and multiple cables with no success. I give it 3/5 stars because I intended to use it for Firewire Audio +…

Great for HDD/Video

I've been looking for a FireWire splitter for a long time and this one does the job. I'm a video editor and need lots of FireWire ports. I have connected 3 external hard drives and my camcorder to this port and I can say that everything works great. I use Apple G5 and Final Cut. This product helped me get all the information I needed on my drives when they were connected to the same drive. With my monitor and G5 running out of FireWire ports, this literally saved the day for all my video needs.

Seems to be working fine.

I recently upgraded my iMac from 2008 to a late 2013 model, but the new computer doesn't have Firewire 400 ports for my old peripherals, only USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt. This hub gives me 5 Firewire 400 ports for these older devices (its 6th port connects it daisy-chained to my iMac via a Firewire 400 cable, a Firewire 800-400 adapter, and a Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 adapter) .

Pros
  • Best in class
Cons
  • Very expensive

Belkin is a name I still trust

Firewire 400 is getting harder and harder to find. I've read all the previous reviews and researched the Firewire brands in general. I had F5U526-APL. When I went to the Belkin website, the latest iteration was the F5U526-APL-S. I'm using the F5U526-APL as an active hub connected to a Quicksilver G4, an external Firewire DVD burner and an external Firewire drive. First when I turned on the new hub. The external firewire drive showed up as an unknown device. The burner installed with no…

Pros
  • Useful beyond its intended purpose
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
