Not for 11+ speed chains. The instructions in the list are incorrect

Reputable chain and tool manufacturers recommend replacing the chain when you see 0.75% wear on 10 gears or less, 0.5% on 11+ gears and 1, 0% in one gear. The listing says it runs at 11-12 speeds and other speeds, but it doesn't. Furthermore, it looks like a decent quality product.

Accurate and easy to use

I bought a pressure gauge and was shocked to find that most of my circuits were worn out. I've compared the old circuits and the new circuits and this meter is accurate. You can easily tell when it's time to replace the chain. On my old school steel frame mountain bike, the difference in noise and shifting was immediately noticeable as soon as I installed the new chain. I am impressed.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Can't remember

Decent for commuter train maintenance; look for others for better bikes.

is available The Circuit Checker is very functional and works as expected. Note, however, that this testing program only tests 0.75 and 1% elongation, not 0.5% elongation. This is normal on commuter bikes. However, if you're servicing a fancier bike, it's helpful to have a 0.5% stretch warning label because if you see 0.75% stretch you'll want a replacement chain ready.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Update

Good tool for the money, seems accurate.

The tool is quite small, about 6 inches long, so it only measures wear on a few links. If it were longer, it would be more accurate. At the moment it reports the expected wear: the 0.75 side nose barely fits the new chain. I can't put the 1.0 side nose on the new chain. I wish there was a cheaper Shimano CN41 version, it's the only chain wear tool I'd pay more for.

Pros
  • Highly rated by testers for support and durability
Cons
  • Socket required

Light weight - much better than no tool

Chain wear is 0.75% and 1.0% on the pass/non-run side. While it's better than nothing in a holdall, you really should have a model that has a 0.50% wear rate. This is the best time to replace the chain without changing gears. Such chain wear patterns exist. Even better, since chains are relatively cheap, just replace them at the time you would normally do "chain maintenance", which is self-deception at best, unless you're using ultrasonic cleaning tanks and whatnot.

Pros
  • Good price
Cons
  • Faulty

Don't be a fool and check your chain

Don't be a fool and check your chain and then kick yourself spending a few hundred on a new transmission if you could catch it with this tool for 6 dollars. Bikes are expensive and a little preventive maintenance can save you a lot of money. If you're looking to buy a used bike, grab one and take it with you when you look at it. If the chain is badly worn, you know that the gearbox most likely needs to be replaced, and therefore have the opportunity to act, or at least find out what you areโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Pretty package
Cons
  • There are imperfections

Works well at half the price

I agree it would be nice if there was a guide for this. I had to ask a friend, although descriptions of such tools can be found on the Internet. The bottom line is to place the notch on the link and see if the pick head fits comfortably between the links it touches. When your chain wears out, the head slides down easily. If your chain isn't worn out, then it isn't either. There are two different measurements 0.75 and 1.0 (probably 0.75% and 1% chain elongation). You should replace your chain if
