Good upgrade from stock

Very nice upgrade to drive. I installed these shocks on an 18" 4-runner SR5 and they seem to be a lot firmer than the stock ones. I installed them with a .85 stroke as I wanted the front of the truck to be flush with the standard rear height. Now the truck feels safe, it doesn't bounce when going over bumps. The nose-dive has been reduced and the overall handling has become firmer. Very good purchase and fast delivery.

Pros
  • Cool product
Cons
  • I don't remember

Get rid of the X-reas in your Toyota 4runner and get these

Replaced my 2011 Toyota 4runner X-rea system. Love them! ride is much better. Replacing the X-Reas was very expensive - leaky struts and shocks aren't repairable, you have to replace the whole thing for about $3,000, which is a terrible system to even put in a car. Off-road driving is much better with these Bilsteins, and there's no longer nose dive when braking for a quick stop. The rear ones were also installed by Bilstein 33-187174. Highly recommended.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Not bad but...

Hubs failed on the first set at 6,000 km

I set shock absorbers to .75". Initially, they rode very well and greatly improved handling. But after about a year and 6,000 km, the lower bushings failed. So I had to buy another set and reinstall and realign. I don't think it was an installation error as I have used many 5100s in the past cars with thousands of accident free miles. Probably just bad luck with that. Make sure to align after installation. My 30,000-mile 4Runner wasn't even close after installing it.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Perfect budget jack with improved smoothness

Perfect budget shock absorbers. I often ride my 4runner off-road. Stock is great right out of the box. But on the road it was very soft, the nose dived at brake lights etc. bilstein greatly improved on-road handling and I didn't lose any off-road capability. I mounted the fronts on a .83" lifter and it sits flat and looks like stock tires. Be sure to adjust the headlights after leveling the front end. Don't be that type. I don't know why the picture only shows the hardware, the shock is on. I…

Driving style and driving style completely changed

Toyota 4Runner 2016 Release. We love this car at first, but it scares us. To the point where we seriously tried to get rid of it. Everything about him is perfect for our needs EXCEPT how he feels. It feels like you're slipping around every corner like it's on ice or snow. We've had over 30 cars and this is the only car that has ever felt like this. I did a google search and it seems a lot of other people are having the same problem. And recommended to install these racks. Installed the racks…

  • Absolutely amazing!

  • Vulgarity

Incorrect instructions, shock absorbers 0.75 " higher than stock

First they were on the front of a stock 2018 SR5. The shocks are already 0.75 inches higher than stock, and using the installation instructions I clamped the third ring of the shock for an average 1.75 stroke. This resulted in my front being 2.5 inches higher than stock which wasn't exactly what I was aiming for and now the front is higher than the back. I had to raise the truck again, take the dampers out again, compress the springs etc etc and move the clip to the second ring which actually…

It lasted 3 years and one burst and started to flow.

So it's hard. I've had them for 3 years now and my wife recently noticed an odd tire wear pattern. I looked, and a rack was broken and flowed. Contacted bilstein and they were rude, unhelpful and genuinely unwilling to guarantee their "lifetime shocks" by saying "they will not guarantee their products will sell on Amazon". So that made things difficult. I finally got Amazon to buy two new ones, but after that I won't be buying any more Bilstein products. From now on I will fox for all my shock…
