No more guessing what's inside the wall

I bought this device because I Me got tired of wondering what was in my concrete walls when hanging shelves or pictures or installing new electrics and plumbing. I have three inexpensive stud finders, but when used on a known piece of rebar 3cm below the wall surface, each gave different results, none of which were correct. The two searchers were unable to locate a known active electrical cable with a 10 A heating load about 2 cm below the wall surface. The Bosch D-Tect 150 was accurate toโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Patented Ultra Wide Band (UWB) radar technology detects material type, depth and width information of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, non-metallic objects and live AC power cables
Cons
  • Functionality

Learn to use it and it works.

Not quite a tricorder, but does a good job of scanning walls. However, it really helps to work through the tutorial videos. I would like them to offer an online tutorial that teaches you about each of the items presented with the virtual device. But if you do that, it usually works. One problem is that it doesn't detect the gaps between the detected object and the drywall (or other substance) you're looking through. Also, materials like plywood can confuse or obscure deeper readings. All inโ€ฆ

Pros
  • DISPLAY: Equipped with an easy-to-read color display to show the depth and position of the target, as well as the detection mode and strength. Maximum detection depth (plastic tube filled with water) 2 to 3/8 inch (60 mm)
Cons
  • Available in white only

Does not work well with stud finders

Product does not perform as advertised: - In drywall mode, it detects a live wire as a 'stud'; after several attempts (each consisting of several runs according to the manual) it "sometimes" found the wire. The wire was close to the drywall, almost halfway between the two posts, there were no other objects there except for two posts about 6 inches from each side. If it can't see I can't use it at all: My intended use was to find a bolt, drill a hole to make sure the screw goes in the bolt. With

Not recommended for locating wooden posts behind drywall

a standard $20-$50 post finder would be worth it. the price is even 10 times higher than that of this device. Unfortunately for the type of work I typically do - finding bolts, pipes, etc. behind drywall - the Bosch D-Tech 150 was terrible. Not only was it no better than my $20 unit, it was way worse. So bad that it's possible the unit I received was faulty; skipping hairpins, giving one reading one minute and another the next. Even restrictions on directions don't inspire trust; Issues withโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Seven detection modes: concrete (wet, dry, or deep), heated floors, drywall, metal, and signal type
Cons
  • Not everything fits
