Not worth saving

I have a Craftsman mower with a 19hp B&S Gold+ engine. Last season, just before winter, they put it in my regular carbs. I was in a bind and picked up the $20 Revain unit just to run it at the end of the season. I should have just spent $100 and gotten this device from the start. Another block made my lawn mower splash and backfire. No matter what he did, nothing helped. I replaced the new block and everything runs smoothly with no jumps or kickbacks and the throttle works as it should. When a…

Great replacement for that awful Nikki carburetor

I have a Snapper ST1842 with Briggs and Stratton 18.5hp Intek. The mower is clean and always kept indoors. The old Nikki carburetor gave me only problems: it worked intermittently and ended up filling the engine with so much gas that it ended up in the oil. I rebuilt the carburetor with a Briggs carburetor rebuild kit but that didn't work. I was considering using one of the fake carburetors but you can't tell me if they will work properly with such a wide range of attachments. It was worth the…

Direct replacement for an earlier Nikki carburetor

This was a direct replacement for the original troublesome Nikki carburetor on my mother's lawn mower engine. The Nikki has a lousy design: the plastic lower half is connected to the aluminum carburettor body by a float chamber. The engine was humming and wouldn't keep a constant rpm so I cleaned and overhauled the carburetor which only helped temporarily before it became unreliable again. This carburetor is machined from a single piece of aluminum, eliminating the need for a complex gasket…

My Craftsman tractor is working again!

For the last few years my 2011 Craftsman YT3000 (Husqvarna) has been bugging me. Difficult to start in cold weather. If it caught fire, it often died instantly. I changed the spark plug and filter, adjusted the valves, ground the magneto and magneto in the cap. It seemed to help a little, but last week I couldn't do anything to get it working again. I had a feeling it might get swamped on launch as it "grabs" and then quickly dies. If I adjust the throttle correctly, it sometimes starts. I did…

Got rid of Nikki Carb!

I started out with a Nikki carburetor on my 21hp B&S mower. Like all Nikki carbs, mine started giving me problems. I've built/rebuilt dozens of carbs so I took on this one. I reinstalled it 3 times, each time I got different problems. On the last rebuild it worked great, I reamed the main jet to run a bit richer, now it has more power, performance has dropped a lot and among other things it seemed to run at a lower cost on previous rebuilds. After the 3rd repair I went inside and excitedly…
