I have had many Britas but this one is terrible. It was cheaper than the other Brita and as long as it just stayed in the fridge it was fine and I love the color red. The little lid that opens to fill keeps falling off - there's a little tab missing that you gently squeeze can snap into place. Also, I always fill it all the way to the top. I bought this to replace another Brita jug that lasted 6 years. I started using it about a month after purchasing it. It flows around the filter in less than 5 months. We have chlorinated water that we use to get rid of the taste, but you can still try "filtered" water.
