Not as good as it seems

The corkscrew does what it's supposed to, but the mechanism is far from accurate. This is definitely not the quality I expected from Brookstone. A "gift box" is simply a patterned cardboard box with a lid. Sure, you can label it and give it away without wrapping it, but "presentation box" implies something much nicer. No spare spool or other accessories are provided except a foil cutter. I will keep it but I don't think I will buy it again.

Cons
  • The list will be long.

Brilliant! Never used simple

great! Never used a simpler, lighter or just plain cooler corkscrew! They say if you invent a better mousetrap the world will make a path to your door. Meet the biggest "mousetrap". I have no idea what the reviewers had in mind with some of their problems, it's SO easy to use. Follow the instructions and voila, it's open! It's even easier to remove the cork from the device, I think it can be easier than falling out of bed. It's a shame I didn't discover this device years ago.

BEST EVER --- AND I HAVE SEVERAL

My similar model wine opener broke after a few hundred uses and I wanted the same replacement. I couldn't find the same model but I found this one that I like a lot better. Not only does it have a sleek design, but it also uncorks wine much more smoothly and with much less effort. An added bonus is that the foil cutter has a unique design that works the first time and doesn't require multiple passes. I highly recommend this product to all wine lovers. Update: October 20, 2021 This opener is…

Just so you know what can happen

We bought this item on 5/3/2016 thinking it might be the last item we need for a long time, mainly because of the good reviews. After claiming it could be used on synthetic corks we were sold. 11/22/2019 no longer works, no longer pulls out the cork. I fix most things in our house from electrical to electronic to mechanical and sometimes I break things. This Chinese made item (printed on the inside of a small chrome spatula) should never be repaired and I cannot repair it as the soft metal…

  • Absolutely amazing!

Heavy and durable corkscrew and opener

This opener is a replacement for a similar plastic opener we had. This one died after about 5 years of heavy domestic use averaging about 4-5 bottles a week. This is almost entirely made of stainless steel, very heavy and quite durable. I expect it to last a lot longer if I swap out the screw a few times before the rest of the unit wears out. However, it is a bottle opener. How does this happen? It is excellent. It's the fastest knife we've ever owned, and that's saying something. We have used…

Pros
  • Handy item
Cons
  • So far so good

The description of this item clearly states that it will work with natural and synthetic corks. Of course, I didn't come across many synthetic corks, but didn't you know that the first bottle I took to test had a synthetic cork when I received it? The worm entered easily enough, but just slipped back out when trying to remove the cork. I reconfigured and tried again with the same result. The cork will NOT come out. First bottle try and this thing was 0-1. I remembered reading the description…
