Simple and easy to use

Yes, it has many extra features, but like anything you don't use every day, you need to read the instructions to use it. As for wasting tape. Yes I see it. But if you set the margins smaller and instead of printing one label at a time, just print them all at once, the only ribbon lost will be at the beginning. NO BIG OFFER. Speaking of battery consumption. Doesn't matter. It has a 7-9 volume port for wall plugs. For $15 you can buy a wall charger and plug it into the mains. If you need it…

Used in a clinical setting. Bought 1 for home use

Read some reviews. I bought my first one for use at work in a clinical setting, however, and what I really needed was a piece of tape that preceded the tag's tongue: I had to drill holes in the temporal bones, insert a small tie, and then thread it the tag through the tie. Loop for packaging as each specimen had a case number. I have also used the label maker on many other research projects as well as in my office to neatly label files that I have over 2000. This first purchase was over 7 years

More of a Revain review than a product.

Ordered a Brother PT-1290 as a Christmas present for a family member rather than ordering a model with fewer features. The ad said "Product in original packaging". "The packaging will have cosmetic damage" and had a price reduction of about 30%. When it arrived the blister pack was of course re-taped but the label itself was intact. However, the "INCLUDED black and white starter tape" and the user manual were missing, the problem was not mentioned in the list. So I emailed Revain explaining the

Slightly confusing but cool labels

A few years ago I bought my kids a labeling machine - the sort of one where you have to click on the right letter and then click. They liked to make labels for all sorts of things. I thought I'd put labels on it too, but to be honest my hand gave out pretty quickly! When I saw this car for a good price I decided to give it a try. WOW! Compared to our old model, it's quite easy to make really nice labels. I would suggest reading the instructions if you want fancy borders. I sat there for over…

It's ok, but they make the best models.

I've had other Brother labellers in the past so I have a pretty good idea of what to expect. Good things first: the tapes are easy to load; Gas stations are easy to find everywhere. The imprint is clear. The keyboard is good and the menu navigation is pretty good too. Now for the bad: The display is ALWAYS dark. It doesn't matter how good your batteries are. Which, by the way, requires 6 AAA. Serious? Why not two threes or a whole two? 6 damn batteries? Why not 100 tiny button cell batteries…

Massive Waste of Tape

I am very disappointed with this labeller. I had an old p-touch at work that I loved and when it finally died I found that they no longer make that model. After reading the reviews I settled on the Brother PT1290 as a replacement. I wish I'd paid more attention to the reviewers who said this thing wasted tape. My guess is that Brother wants people to have to buy ribbon more often, but leaving about half the ribbon on a cartridge unused is incredibly wasteful and they rip off their customers. My

Pros
  • Absolutely Amazing!
Cons
  • Some defects

Before you buy this product you should know that it is designed for laminated tape and will ONLY work on laminated tape. The machine itself costs 50% more at Revain than the non-laminated model and more importantly the laminated belt costs twice as much as the non-laminated belt. Laminate tape cannot be written on either. Also, out of concern for the lamination printhead, it's designed to waste an inch of expensive ribbon every time you cut it. Since the tape on the Revain is $12 for a 26ft…
