You're right back where you started

Product works great. Ordered for sons who wanted to find a hunting ground. It was easy for me so they could find their way back to camp if anything happened. They tested it and it works. It won't get you back on the same path you chose, but it will get you there. I bought 2 different types of Bushnell Back and they both worked the same.

    Simple but sufficient!

This is not a GPS for the serious outback traveler. But if you regularly lose your car in large parking lots, or if you are visiting a new city and trying to find your way back to your hotel, or even if you are taking small walks in unfamiliar areas, then it's just enough. All you get is a pointer telling you which direction to go and how far to go, and in many everyday situations that's all you need.

    Surprisingly accurate

To be honest I was expecting it to be used more like a toy but after some experimentation it turned out to be surprisingly accurate! I don't get too disoriented. It's also a lot lighter than my other devices, which is fantastic! I removed the star because I'm pretty sure the clip holding the battery compartment closed is about to break.

    Pros
    • Nice touch
    Cons
    • Negative impression

I bought this to get me back to the truck while birding in northern Michigan and it seemed to give me the right distance from the car but NEVER pointed me in the right direction. I've read the instructions and I'm pretty sure it's not "user error". I tried countless times in disbelief, but even if I walked, say, 50 yards in one direction, the arrow pointed in the wrong direction. I will ask for my money back. The concept is exactly what I'm looking for; I just wanted something that would bring…

It's hard to trust the best GPS units

I have to admit I'm used to Garmin's more expensive handhelds which cost a lot more so this isn't a fair comparison. However, I am disappointed. It's slow to start and lock up, and when walking, its highly variable pointer doesn't inspire confidence. I strapped it to my hunting backpack and use it as a plan B, but I've never been sure if it can get me home. It worked when I used it, but at times it could zigzag you in a general direction, and I soon learned to think "generally" of everything…

Maybe I'll buy Back Track again.

It's too early to say for sure, but after a few walks around town I'm not sure it will be reliable enough for rural use. I've seen YouTube videos of this thing taking people back to the right place, but when I used it yesterday it pointed me in the completely wrong direction to get home. Then he pointed right this morning, but I was still 148 yards away while standing on my own step. I will test it this weekend and then decide whether to open my second one or not. on a night outback trip, I…

You can't trust the compass, but other than that I like it.

Okay, it's not perfect, but I would still buy it again. I found this while playing. Yes, it will take you back to the marked location, maybe not there directly, but you will get there. Yes, it takes about 45 seconds for the GPS satellite to connect when it is first turned on. This can take longer outdoors when you are in dense trees. I used to work while walking through a dense pine forest and it works great, only the figure needs to be recalculated every now and then even outdoors, but it's…

Simple and effective once you understand its limitations

I already have a sophisticated and versatile GPS device with topographic maps and advanced features. However, I bought the Backtrack G2 precisely because it doesn't have all of these features. When traveling (especially abroad) I usually just need to know how to get back to my hotel or car after hours of strolling through the winding streets of foreign cities. The Backtrack G2 allows you to mark up to three locations (you must do this while in that location - you cannot enter coordinates or…
