I bought this to use as a wick for some homemade spirit lamps (cat cookers). It does the job really well. Undamaged after repeated burning tests and use. It is very soft and easy to use. I can easily trim it with regular scissors. Sparks and flames don't seem to bother him. I have used several of these blankets to wrap an aluminum casting for welding once it came out of the preheat oven. The ceilings gave off so much smoke that the fire alarm went off and luckily our system called us before the fire department was called. I bought this to replace a much smaller Oatey FR/Thermal Coating that I bought for soldering copper tubing in small spaces next to flammable pins. I tested this with an open flame from MAP-Pro, and while it smoked a lot more than an oatey blanket, it did protect the wood behind it from burning when the hot open flame was aimed directly at it.
