Good product! on welding machines

Bought for work with a silencer on a modern sporting rifle. I had no idea how hot they get during use, and they don't cool down quickly before it's time to pack up at the shooting range and head home. The first time I used my Mechanix glove and as you can see the glove melted almost immediately. I cut off a piece of this blanket and it worked fantastic! It got warm, but I was able to easily remove and deal with the muffler. I also cut another piece to wrap around the end of the muzzle adapterโ€ฆ

Stove Backpack Windscreen

There are many fancy metal windscreens that you can fit around a camp stove, but those made of sheet metal are bulky, tough and have details that get lost. Full titanium screens are very light but difficult to store due to sharp edges. Halved to 9" x 24" and secured with two staples, this comforter proved about the same weight but much more flexible in my backpack. When rolled up, it even serves as a pillow. Depending on your stove, you could get three windshields from this blanket (6" x 24")โ€ฆ

Seems to work with protective gear

Bought in preparation for some remodeling work I need to do around the house (bathroom, kitchen) where I need to strip old steaming plumbing valves and replace them with new ones and these valves are very close to the walls. Haven't done a facelift yet but tested the effectiveness of this product by setting it on fire. It only looks like the material could catch fire, but it didn't; after the experiment it smelled burnt. The burned area did not flake or crumble. So the product seems to beโ€ฆ

Excellent value for money and quality. does the job.

I bought this to use as a wick for some homemade spirit lamps (cat cookers). It does the job really well. Undamaged after repeated burning tests and use. It is very soft and easy to use. I can easily trim it with regular scissors. Sparks and flames don't seem to bother him. With significant burns, the fibers sometimes "flare up" with heat, but once the flame source is removed, the fibers stop "burning." I can easily see it protecting surfaces from burns, fire or spark damage when used byโ€ฆ

Emits a HUGE amount of smoke on contact with a 750 degree pour!

I have used several of these blankets to wrap an aluminum casting for welding once it came out of the preheat oven. The ceilings gave off so much smoke that the fire alarm went off and luckily our system called us before the fire department was called. The cast was only heated to 750 degrees, well below the advertised 1800 degrees. In addition, wherever the casting pressed against the ceiling, it pressed it and left (jaws) the contour of the part. This compressed area conducts heat much fasterโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Tear resistant carbon welding blanket that won't hurt leather
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Good enough - great price

I bought this to replace a much smaller Oatey FR/Thermal Coating that I bought for soldering copper tubing in small spaces next to flammable pins. I tested this with an open flame from MAP-Pro, and while it smoked a lot more than an oatey blanket, it did protect the wood behind it from burning when the hot open flame was aimed directly at it. The other side was warm to the touch after one side had been exposed to an open flame for a few seconds and there was visible discoloration where theโ€ฆ
