Nice monster, holder needs some work

The thermometer seems to be quite good in terms of temperature measurement, ease of use and readability. I've used it for a variety of purposes including butter temperatures and syrup making. The main complaint about this product is how well the holder works. The holder prevents the thermometer from falling but struggles to keep it upright, especially when it comes to stirring. Want to keep your head down. It also doesn't stick to pans very well and wants to fall sideways. I'd say if you don't…

Pros
  • Makes sure the oil is at the right temperature. This thermometer can be used with any size fryer.
Cons
  • I don't really like it, everything is fine

I bought this to help me control the temperature of my milk when heating it to make yogurt. It's almost 13 inches long and has a great clip that allows you to raise or lower the thermometer stem to where you want it. If you pull it out of the holder and run your fingers over it from below, you will feel the thermal sensors. Note that you need to be at least 2.5 inches away for it to get accurate readings (that's a bummer). The sensor also has a step of 50, starting at 100º Fahrenheit, so it's…

Only 2 inches of liquid is needed for an accurate measurement.

This review is for the CDN IRL500 InstaRead Long Stem Roast Turkey Thermometer. I bought this for the Fry Daddy electric fryer. Didn't read the description carefully enough. The front of the packaging says "for large frying containers". It would be nice if they were a little more descriptive, the stem of this thermometer is 12 inches long! The back of the pack says how to fry a turkey, which I find very interesting but would never do. The rod is exactly 2 inches from its pointed end. Fry Daddy…

Overheating the oil can lead to potentially dangerous consequences.

The bottom line is that I bought the wrong thermometer. Recording higher temperatures (over 290 degrees Fahrenheit in my case) requires more than 4 inches of oil. On first use, I wanted to increase the temperature from just under 4 inches of oil to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. The reading rose steadily to 290 degrees Fahrenheit and then stopped. My first reaction was that more heat was needed, so I turned on the burner. The reading stayed at 290. I suspected something was wrong and tried a known…

You will risk every one of them.

Most bimetal deep grease probes of this type are foreign-made junk. This is my third. Most are made in China; This is made in Vietnam. Sensors of this type tend to drift 10-40 degrees F right out of the box, and if you drop them or drop them in transit, forget it. This watch has all the winding issues that watches had until the introduction of the quartz movement. This one, like many others, has a nut on the top of the meter, just below the dial, which you can turn with pliers to set the…

  • Stylish and modern design
