Description of Champion 7989 Spark Plug - Double Platinum Power, Carton of 1

Double Platinum Power - Premium Spark Plug. More Powerful Performance. Platinum center and ground electrode for greater wear resistance. Maintains stable operating temperature under all engine loads. Fine-wire center electrode for greater ignitability. V-trimmed ground electrode promotes sharper spark focus. Heat-Active alloy allows electrodes to reach optimal temperature. Double platinum conductors place platinum on both the center and ground electrodes to ensure longer plug life and minimize wear on both electrode surfaces. An exclusive heat-active alloy allows the electrodes to reach optimal temperature quickly and maintain stable operating temperature under all engine loads. Champion double platinum spark plugs utilize an exclusive heat-active alloy; The dual platinum fine-wire center electrode and platinum pad electrodes provide sharper spark focus and maximize plug life. The fine-wire and V-trimmed electrode creates a sharper spark focus than a conventional spark plug.

2007 Mustang GT Fits spark plugs

Replaced crappy original equipment spark plugs that have been known to crack with these one-piece designs and some anti-seize. Make sure you skip them every ride. The cars drive great.

Pros
  • Thermoset alloy allows electrodes to reach optimal temperature
Cons
  • Low repairability

Excellent solid spark plugs for Ford Expedition

This is a great fork that will not "break apart" on its own like the Motorcraft factory forks did. In general they hold up well. A few notes on preparation/caution. These plugs are "thicker" than the original plugs and require a 5/8" socket for installation and removal (compared to the 9/16" sockets on the original). I also had a weird problem with the connector losing the electrode after 13,000 miles! I over revved at higher RPMs but idled fine. The tip of the cork hit the ceramic at higher…

Pros
  • Double Platinum Power - premium spark plug. Stronger performance.
Cons
  • Upgrades available

Works great on F150 V8

I bought these to replace faulty OEM two piece spark plugs that are failing on my 2005 F150 V8. They are specially designed to prevent breakage on removal and can withstand high torque as they are one piece. The dealer wanted to fit the so-called improved Motorcraft spark plugs, but I refused. After the old spark plugs were removed and replaced, the engine ran a little better. Buy, the longer you wait to change spark plugs, the more likely they are to go bad, and Ford will make you pay for the…

Pros
  • Maintains stable operating temperature under all engine loads

Does what it's supposed to do

I bought these for a 2006 Mustang GT to combat the known burned spark plug problem. When I tried to remove the factory plugs (about two years ago) I broke a couple of them and panicked all day trying to get them out. I decided to replace them with these when I recently removed the factory plugs to reapply anti-seize. My car works fine with them and hopefully I don't have to worry about them breaking again. I applied a non-stick coating just in case. As for pulling out the OEM connectors, grab a

GARBAGE! Broken electrode, bent mass - complete garbage.

Champion 7989 appeared to be the answer to Motorcraft's poor spark plug design, but upon opening the box I found that each spark plug was in a small box and a couple of spark plugs were outside during delivery and just bounced around in the shipping carton. Upon inspection I found that many of them were warped and out of spec. This includes the end caps that were still in the champion's shipping carton as well as those that were removed during shipping. Well, I didn't bother putting them in my…

Pros
  • V-notch ground electrode helps focus spark more sharply
Cons
  • Doubtful

This is the plug you want!

If you are buying this spark plug to replace the originals on your Ford/Mercury/Lincoln vehicle, this is the spark plug you need. The reason is that originals tend to break INSIDE the head. On genuine Motorcraft spark plugs, the nut and electrode shell are machined separately and then pressed together. In case you haven't seen it, the electrode sleeve on this and the original connector is long. About 3 inches long. As you can see in the photo, the electrode sheath is 2/3 the length of the…

  • Fine wire center electrode for better ignitability
Cons
  • For old
