Waste of money and time

This item is not only a waste of your money but also the money you spent on edging and preparing your surface. After trying to use this tool I had a large scratch on my painted surface and an edge that was overgrown rather than cut. I went back and cleaned the mushroom with a razor and now it doesn't have such a sharp edge as well as a few bare bits of wood showing it needs patching. I would be in the same place and $10 richer if I had never bought this instrument.

  • Great for a small home

Absolutely great. Amazing tool.

We used to have to cut veneer. I used a plain blade on the inside while supporting the tree with a board on the outside; I've tried angling the blade straight to the edge, I've tried sanding the edge to loosen the veneer and break it right where it's supposed to. NONE of these techniques even compare to the ease of use, time saving and precision of this tool. I used thick pre-glued veneer and while the veneer itself offered some resistance it was amazing. Can't recommend enough.

The idea is good, but not so good in practice.

Probably better not to waste time and money. This tool looks like it should be good, but a combination of blade thickness and/or tool thickness is causing a problem. I've found that I'm just better off using a regular all-purpose razor and a piece of wood as a portable cutting board. The problem is that when cutting, the edge has to bend to the side, but with this tool it has to bend right at the cut, which causes problems. Because of the shape, the blade isn't as thin as a regular straight…

Inexpensive, powerful trimming tool. Makes the task simple and easy.

This simple tool makes trimming excess material from edging strips simple, easy and professional with excellent results. I used to use a utility knife, but it's too easy to make a mistake and mess up a project. This tool uses very sharp blades and cuts at a perfect 90 degree angle in both directions without scratching the wood surface. I used this tool to trim the top and bottom walnut edges of two TV stands in about 5 minutes. A great tool gets the job done better and faster than a utility…

Edges are not trimmed smoothly

I finally gave up and decided to try the trimmer when I needed to cut 9 adjustable shelves for some bookshelves. Unfortunately, I have to fully agree with all the negative reviews here. It just doesn't cut the edges cleanly. After using it on 2 shelves I had to get out a tried and tested razor blade and clean the edges of the ones I had already used the trimmer on because the trimmer cut almost nothing. Then I just did the rest with a razor. I work a lot with wood, so I know how to use the…

Not very good but has a use

I have two trimmers, this one and a quad trimmer with carbide blades. This trimmer has one distinct advantage over the quad trimmer - the quad trimmer will get stuck if you try to cut a strip that is too wide. My wife and I worked with 1/2" birch plywood and all I had on hand was 7/8" tubing. We ended up with about 1/8 inch excess tape on one end and about 1/4 inch on the other. Both trimmers performed well on the 1/8" side, but this trimmer performed better on the 1/4" side (after a few…

Useful and economical way to cut veneer

This item should be used with caution (AVOID rushing when trimming raised veneer edges; periodically check for grain direction changes and adjust by using change your direction of travel). If you do the above (like I did after watching some internet videos on applying and trimming veneers) you shouldn't have any problems. Two additional things you MUST consider before purchasing and using this tool: 1) The razor will dull QUICKLY - this isn't a problem if you're only cutting a short section of…

ATTENTION: NO RETURNS! RED ALERT! RED ALERT! (And I will.)

I got it, but it didn't work. and it worked better than I could have imagined. It cuts into the wood about 1/2 inch INSIDE of the edge, yes there is a back of the blade that can cut straight into the countertop. Tumbled into the rim, made a bevel, yeah I kept it straight. If you're cutting something flat and straight, like the front of a shelf or something, you might be able to get this thing to work, but I have to rip off all the tape. put on (kitchen island which is trickier than most strips,
