There are three major Eheim filters with different media mixes, but these sponge pads are the 'standard'. I order new ones when I need replacements.

Useful for "reinforcing" the layers in our Eheim external filter. Keeps charcoal from ceramic and fiberglass from charcoal etc.

Good main filter that is easy to clean. I use polyfilament in combination with a medium pad and then a thin pad works great.

These are incredible filter pads and I will not try any fake or homemade filters for my Eheim filters. They hardly wear out; Just find the same thing over and over again and use it again. Very rough and well done. Home is the best.

I tried to buy an unnamed analogue but it smelled like oil and was from China. Skimping on filter media isn't worth my fish life, so stick with what's made specifically for your filter.

A while ago I went the cheap route and bought some green cleaning sponges which I cut up and put in the filter instead of this one. I have to say the "green" certainly worked, but I love the ease of use offered by this genuine Eheim filter pad! Looking at the box I also noticed that the first pre-filter gasket had to be UNDER the plastic cover. I also discovered this after putting it on top and setting everything up. I'll fix that the next time I clean the filter.
