2012 Prius on Receivers

2012 Prius - Great fit, easy to install. It took me about 45 minutes to install. I used a hammer drill to remove 3 of the 4 screws from the car, I used a flexible ratchet wrench to remove the 4th screw and used an orange hammer to loosen it. I didn't bother removing the rubber silencer hangar as I didn't have the right tools and it was a bit painful. Instead, I pushed it to the side and pinched the heat shield (come on) when installing the hitch. I used blue lock firmly on the threadsโ€ฆ

Great little hook.

Easiest clutch installation I've ever done. I used this on my 2014 Prius plug-in. Did it on the ground with just a socket wrench. Short hitches are good quality and will easily hold anything your Prius can handle. After loosening the OE tow hook and exhaust hanger, tilt the hitch (passenger side to the ground) so you can first lift the driver's side bracket through the slot in the skid plate. It's a little fiddly, but it's okay and you don't have to cut it. Then simply mount it with theโ€ฆ

Perfect Fit - Receiver

Class 1 Curt Tow Bar 11276 fits my 2010 Prius perfectly. It has a 1 1/4" receiver. I smeared dish soap on the muffler hanger to pry the rod out of the rubber with vise pliers. Do not use oil or petroleum grease as it will rot rubber. I suggest using deep sockets use it to remove the screws on the driver's side. I found out too late as one of the screws fell into the panel. I first pushed the left side of the hitch into the panel to hold it in place. Right side to keep it simple. Then I put 2โ€ฆ

But does the job. - Goods for towing and winching

I didn't expect such a solid construction and I'm generally enthusiastic. I haven't read all the reviews but none mention that to install you need to either remove or modify the plastic cover that covers the bottom of the car between the bumper and the rear axle. I used a jigsaw to cut out some holes to attach the mounting plates. My second minor complaint is that the final clutch position is 3/4" below the bottom of my bumper, which would be impossible for most cars. Would probably be idealโ€ฆ

Received two broken hitches

Wrong size hitch. It will not fix my Prius. It was about 1/2 inch shorter. Curtis says it should be 38 inches wide; my two were 37.5" and 37.7". Others have complained and drilled new holes (in steel!). When I called Curtis I was told it might bend in transit. This may be due to the shipping carton having no packaging other than a wrapped piece of brown paper and therefore the flanges protruding through the side of the carton during the shipping process. Anyway, Curtis said to turn my car'sโ€ฆ

The holes didn't match.

When I fitted the towbar for the first time the holes didn't line up. You were deflected more than 3/4 of an inch. When I measured the distance between the left and right brackets, it was 37.25 inches when it was supposed to be 38 inches in diameter. I was so lazy to install and then uninstall it again! I ended up taking a 2.2 foot 4x4 and my jack between two pieces of wood and pushing the stud mounting arms out about 38.2 inches. This was the best solution I could think of to fix a Curtโ€ฆ

2015 Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid - Easy Do-It-Yourself

My husband and I installed this towbar on our 2015 Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid today. Easy to install even for newbies like us. You will need a few tools as mentioned in the manufacturer's (Kurt) YouTube video including a torque wrench. You must also have access to someone who can use a torque wrench up to 86 ft.lbs. Not for a trifle: a heat shield "reflector" mounted on the underside of the car just above the muffler. Its trailing edge collides with the clutch plate on that side of theโ€ฆ
