Read my review first

We have always towed with a truck and clutch noise was not a problem. We recently bought a Grand Cherokee and Holy Balls. Same trailer and hitch, and you might think we're hauling a square-wheeled freight train. I recommend putting some oil or anti-seize paste on the threads as stainless steel wears out quickly and will cause permanent damage to the threads when tightened.

Should have bought many years ago

Towed a boat with 5500# for almost 5 years. Not only did this thing eliminate slack in the towing package, but it also made towing safer since sag under braking was virtually eliminated. It's hard to believe that the $12 piece made such a big difference. I ordered two other brands and they came with locknuts - not this block. But this knot is pretty tight and I don't think the locking nut adds anything other than increasing the time to remove (some car washes). Highly recommended for towing or…

Frustrating U-bolts and nuts are junk.

Screws are complete garbage. I finally used it today. I was towing a 5x8 trailer with a new washer and dryer. I used them to prevent play in the hitch on the way home. Everything was going perfectly until I tried to loosen the bolts to remove the hitch. The nuts didn't move. I used a 3/8 ratchet to tighten them. There was no way I could pull them on enough to break them even if I tried. I had to take the breaker and break the screws to loosen it. Completely unacceptable. Of course my Revain…

Mild stainless steel

I put this on my 2" hitch and tightened it with a socket wrench. I realized I had misplaced the plate and tried to remove the nuts. They moved about 1/2 turn and locked. (They didn't have cross threads. Nuts were 3/4" studded) bile threads. Nuts didn't turn one way or the other. I was able to remove the U-bolt by removing the hitch. I put it in a vise clamped and cut the nuts off with wire cutters.I hunted down the 1/2 thread found 2 nuts and put it back on the truck without the washers. If you…

Not as strong as hardened steel

It broke during installation. Stainless steel is much softer than hardened steel. The nut is screwed on and lightly tightened by hand. So I know it's not a cross thread. About 1/2 inch past the end of the thread it became difficult to turn and broke. Never tightened enough to stop the rattling. But like I said, there were still a lot of threads left to make it a little tighter. So if it hadn't caught in some kind of trap and broke it might have dragged on enough to work. But I don't recommend…

Threads broke after several uses

I think this product would be a lot better if it was a fine thread rather than a chunky one. There is a lot of strain on the cords as the weight of the trailer tries to push the tongue up and down and prevent that movement. I've only used it on a 3000# pontoon trailer and while it worked great for a couple of trips on the water, both nuts broke when I tried to remove it to replace the hitch for my other trailer. Threads were one-sided. My 1/2" impact wrench didn't even move them, so I just cut…

Pros
  • Absolute legend
Cons
  • Poorly thought out

SINGLE USE ONLY for Outdoor Accessories

Upon initial inspection the cut is uneven, the thread has nicks and it is not a good 90 degree bend so it does not fit well in the bracket without persuasion . I'll clean it up and try one of these. I tighten it with a 19mm combination wrench, not tight, just gently so that the tensioner itself doesn't hang on the shank. Then I agree, but apparently the bolt is stretched so much that it is impossible to remove the nut. Well, I can anyway undo it and take my 2" accessory out of the receiver and…

Don't buy this. the best towing products and winches

I bought this clutch tensioner and have only had problems with it. First the tensioner arms buckled outward and I had to use a 2.5 pound hammer to bring them together close enough to go through the holes in the plate. Second, the threads of the nuts or bolts are poorly finished; The nuts were either stuck or about to fall off after tightening with a 3/4 socket wrench and brute force. After a short drive, one of the nuts was almost completely unscrewed. Third, it rusted within a week. 304…

Pros
  • Sample for one year
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

Stainless steel is too soft.

I was looking forward to using them to assemble my bike. However, I was very disappointed. I installed the first stabilizer firmly, but not close to the torque limit for 18-8 (304) stainless steel bolts. I used a torque wrench to make sure I didn't. Then I did a test ride with the bike running. I could still see the hesitation. However, when I tried to remove the stabilizer bar, one of the nuts got stuck on the bolt! I couldn't even loosen it with an impact wrench as shown in the first picture.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Don't really like it, everything is fine
